A CONFERENCE ON THE ROLE OF CULTURE IN
THE REALISATION OF THE EUROPE 2020 STRATEGY
The negotiations on the EU budget have begun, and the work of realising the Europe 2020-strategy is proceeding. There are a number of challenges and just as many possibilities.
TIME: Friday 9 December 2011, 09.00-15.00 PLACE: Europahuset, Regeringsgatan 65, Stockholm REGISTRATION & MORE INFO: www.intercult.se/deteuropeiskaprojektetsframtid (in Swedish)
BACKGROUND
The Europe 2020-strategy requires increased employment, productivity and social cohesion in the European Union's member states. In economic terms the cultural and creative sector accounts for 2.6% of EU’s total GDP, and is growing at a rate 12% faster than other economy sectors in the member states. The sector already plays an important role when it comes to developing intercultural competence, collaborating with other policy areas for improved results, stabilising and vitalising rural development, and internationalising Europe’s creative industries on the global arena.
CONFERENCE AIM
Together with invited Swedish members of the European Parliament, national and regional politicians, Government Office and regional representatives and experts from the cultural sector and civil society, the conference aims to:
• identify culture’s role and relevance for the realisation of Europe 2020 • make visible the effects of cultural efforts in other policy areas • highlight the need for a stronger Culture programme and regional funds, and an increased budget
for culture in the EU
PARTICIPANTS
The conference welcomes elected politicians, civil servants, representatives from the cultural sector and civil society NGOs, as well as invited media. Read More...
